We caught up with Jackson Phillips, AKA Day Wave at Red Cat Records in Vancouver, BC, for an episode of Records In My Life. Day Wave shared some of his favorite albums, including titles by Bill Evans, King Crimson and Yes.

In 2014, Jackson Phillips – a trained jazz drummer and former member of electro-pop duo Carousel – traded Los Angeles for Oakland and picked up guitar for the first time. Shortly after his move to the Bay Area, he contracted Cipro Toxicity as a result of taking an antibiotic for a sinus infection. Unable to drink alcohol or consume sugar and afflicted with neuropathy in his hands and feet, he devoted all of his time to composing alone. Inspired by a healthy dose of The Beach Boys, Joy Division, and New Order, Day Wave was born.

Fast forward to 2016 and Day Wave has released his new EP ‘Hard to Read’, now available on Grand Jury/Fat Possum/I Oh You Records.
