CHVRCHES share new ‘Never Say Die’ video
CHVRCHES have shared ‘Never Say Die’, the third release from their eagerly anticipated upcoming album, Love Is Dead, following lead single ‘Get Out’ and ‘My Enemy’ featuring The National’s Matt Berninger. ‘Never Say Die’ boasts a typically unstoppable hook while questioning: “Wasn’t it gonna be fun and wasn’t it gonna be new? Wasn’t it gonna be different and wasn’t it gonna be true?” All three tracks are available to stream and download now, and as an instant grat to those who have pre-ordered the new album. Love Is Dead is due for release via Glassnote Records on May 25th.
Speaking about the single, singer songwriter Lauren Mayberry explains: “‘Never Say Die’ is one of my favorite songs on the record because it really leans into the juxtaposition of what we do — the mixture between the dark and the light. It’s melodic and direct but uses some of the gnarliest sounds we’ve ever tried.” CHVRCHES worked with superstar producer Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia) on Love Is Dead, and Lauren details how “Never Say Die” was one of the first tracks they created in their first week of working together. “The chorus lyric came about very quickly but the verses took a lot longer. I really wanted to sum up a feeling of trying to be optimistic when you feel disillusioned by the people around you, but trying to keep going because ‘Goonies Never Say Die’.”
CHVRCHES are Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty. Love Is Dead is the band’s third album, following their debut The Bones of What You Believe (2013) and its critically acclaimed follow up Every Open Eye (2015). With the soaring success of their first two albums propelling CHVRCHES into new worlds of fame and acclaim, Love Is Dead is at times euphoric and others bittersweet. It is an album about growing up and “coming to terms with the fact that there are great things in the world and there are awful things in the world and that you can’t get one without the other,” says Mayberry.
For the first time in their career, Love Is Dead sees CHVRCHES welcome outside influences, with 2017 and 2018 GRAMMY Producer of the Year Greg Kurstin co-producing nine tracks, with Steve Mac also producing a song.
