Christopher Owens shares new single “This Is My Guitar,” a very personal song that speaks to the emotional core of his forthcoming LP I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair, available October 18th via True Panther (Frost Children, OKLOU, Urika’s Bedroom).

Owens sings about losing everything but the power of music in helping him see past difficult times. Even at his lowest and in the depths of heartache, he’s clung onto his guitar.  “This is my guitar, I play it with my hands / It’s part of me, just like the song I sing” serves as a testament to the place songwriting has held throughout his life. The album features Production from  Ariel Rechtshaid (Vampire Weekend, Haim, Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek) and Jacob Portrait (Alex G, Lil Yachty, Porches).

Christopher Owens is no stranger to loss and hardship – in the years since his last release (2017’s Vante by Curls), he faced a motorcycle accident that left him immobilized, battles with homelessness, and the passing of former Girls bandmate Chet “JR” White right as the duo prepared to reunite in the studio. I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair is an album that captures both the lows of life and the celebration of its highs, one that Owens refers to as “a record about a journey back to the center of myself.” As Owens underscores his enduring influence as a songwriter, he open-heartedly shares a renewed sense of purpose with his guitar. Owens co-produced the album in various San Francisco studios with longstanding collaborator Doug Boehm (Girls, French Kicks, Twin Peaks).

On the album’s themes and experiences, Owens says, “In the second half of the Bible, Jesus asks ‘What shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?’ Lately, I’ve found it interesting to ask it in a different way. ‘What shall it profit a man, if he lose his whole world, and gain back his soul?’ And I think the answer would have to be something like — The Kingdom of Heaven.”
