For the announcement of their double AA 7” vinyl release “Firing Line” / “In the Mud”, dropping April 24th via Heist or Hit (Westside Cowboy) UK band The Slow Country, share  new single “In The Mud.” The Slow Country have shows coming up with Floodlights, The Last Dinner Party, Opus Kink, Pem, pencil and Picture Parlour, plus festival spots at The Great Escape, Truck and Wilderness.

A self-described ‘Folk horror epic’ complete with jagged strings, bellowing accordions, and torrents of feedback, it stands as one of the band’s gnarliest cuts to date, one that takes their distinctive blend of folkish indie and maximalist rock to its most cinematic extremes.

Produced by Bill Ryder Jones, the track’s rising crescendos and furious arrangement express a complex and cathartic outpouring of grief, as vocalist/guitarist Joe Darley explains:

“It becomes harder to picture all the features of someone’s face after they die, and the image of them in your mind grows fuzzy and blurry. For my grandma, I find it increasingly difficult to remember what her hands looked like, the details of her eyes, or what she would likely be wearing now. I never stop missing her, but the clarity of her image is fading, and it’s an intensely savage thing to deal with. Just as you think you’re getting over the worst of it, you suddenly become so angry at yourself for the betrayal of your memory – and the pain of grief has morphed into something worse.

That’s what we wrote In The Mud about. In the end, “a memory of a memory, a print in the snow” is all that we have left of our lost loved ones – just an impression of something that used to be so real.”
