“Drunk Surfer” by Westside Cowboy

Westside Cowboy have shared new single “Drunk Surfer,” The track is off the UK band’s debut EP This Better Be Something Great, available, August 8th via Nice Swan Recordings/Heist or Hit. Westside Cowboy is comprised of Reuben Haycocks, James (Jimmy) Bradbury, Aoife Anson O’Connell, Paddy Murphy.

This fall, Westside Cowboy are supporting Blondshell on her UK tour, before touring the rest of Europe with Black Country, New Road. They’ll play the US for the first time later this year – Dec. 10th at New York’s Nightclub 101 and Dec. 15th at Los Angeles’ Scribble.

Of the track, vocalist Reuben Haycocks says: “‘Drunk Surfer,” in all honesty, was about a time that I have since forgotten. This is not something that I regret however, as the song is now free to take on new meanings depending on the context of my life. I hope it can work like this for others also.” The accompanying video, directed by Kris R, calls back to iconic artists of the past.

This Better Be Something Great, was produced by Lewis Whiting (English Teacher). The band formed over casual jams in drummer Paddy Murphy’s bedroom. Their first show was in a coffee shop a little over a year ago, equipped with only a handful of songs and the caffeine jitters. “We were inspired by what we thought early British rock ‘n’ roll shows would have been like,” says the band. “We think back to the Quarrymen at the Jacaranda, where all the band members and gig attendees would have been too young to drink, so they would drink coffee instead and get hopped up that way. We like to think that these shows, although scrappy and maybe quite traditional sounding, would’ve had a crazy, almost punk energy to them.”
