Morgan Nagler will release her debut solo album, I’ve Got Nothing to Lose, and I’m Losing It, on March 13th via Little Operation Records and More, along with the news, the artist has shared a new single/video, “Grassoline,” the follow-up to tracks “Cradle The Pain” and “Orange Wine.” Last year, Nagler supported Kim Deal, Rilo Kiley, and Kurt Vile on tour. In celebration of I’ve Got Nothing to Lose, and I’m Losing, she will play a Los Angeles record release show on March 12th at Permanent Records Roadhouse.

Nagler, in-demand presence in writing rooms and has co-written with Phoebe Bridgers (on the Grammy-nominated “Kyoto”) Margo Price, Kim Deal, HAIM and beyond. In the midst of that all, she realized that she still had her own stories aching to get out.

In early 2024, on the precipice of the devastating break-up of her engagement, Nagler turned to her guitar to sing her grief, and once she’d opened that channel, the ideas came rushing through like an emotional tsunami. She soon amassed dozens of songs that she knew were the start of something important. As raw and vulnerable as the process was, Nagler says she felt more like herself than ever. She brought dozens of demos to co-producer Kyle Thomas (aka King Tuff), and they collaborated to develop the ones that truly represented this new phase in Nagler’s artistry. They recorded in Los Angeles in 2024 and 2025 with Nagler enlisting a stellar backing band, including Thomas on guitar, backing vocals from Allison Crutchfield, Madi Diaz and Bethany Cosentino, Gabe Noel (Kamasi Washington, Kendrick Lamar) on bass, Courtney Barnett, Meg Duffy and Harrison Whitford on guitars, and Josh Adams (Cat Power, Weyes Blood) on drums.

“Realist hope” is how Nagler describes the overall mood of the album, and you can hear her navigating the balance between optimism and melancholy throughout its eleven tracks. Her sweet, plaintive voice feels like a friend singing directly to you, letting you know you’re not alone, as she combines her gift for musical earworms with candid, evocatively detailed lyrics. On today’s “Grassoline,” a joyful country stomper and an ode to weed with prominent backing vocals by Diaz, Nagler sings: “I know Jesus ain’t gonna save me // And if he does that’d just be crazy // But God gave me a will divine to get by on my own // To go and see all of the daisies // Get to sleeping like a baby // Good old fashioned grassoline always gets me where I wanna go.”
