Wolf Alice share cover of “In the Bleak Midwinter”
UK band Wolf Alice have shared their cover of “In the Bleak Midwinter,” out now via Dirty Hit/RCA Records. Initially released in 2021, the group are thrilled to share their rendition of Christina Rossetti and Gustav Holst’s classic poem with fans across all streaming platforms ahead of the forthcoming holiday season.
Says Wolf Alice of the release, “we have always thought ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’ was a beautiful melody and we could kind of imagine it as some kind of melancholy pop song, so with that in mind we tried a version of it sometime last year which we thought you may as well have this year too, because you can never have too many Christmas songs.”
The release of “In the Bleak Midwinter” caps off an eventful year for the band, who supported Harry Styles for a portion of his European tour this past summer, opened for Halsey at Los Angeles’ acclaimed Hollywood Bowl and embarked on headlining tours of their own across North America, UK, Ireland, Europe, and Australia. This June, Wolf Alice also released Blue Lullaby, a companion EP containing stripped-down, lullabied versions of select songs from their Mercury Prize-nominated third record Blue Weekend.
Wolf Alice are Ellie Rowsell (vocals, guitar), Joff Oddie (guitar, vocals), Theo Ellis (bass), and Joel Amey (drums, vocals). It has been a decade since the band began as a duo of Ellie Rowsell and Joff Oddie, then later expanded to a four-piece, with Joel Amey and Theo Ellis joining the group.
Wolf Alice have become a beloved, formidable live act in their ten years of existence, having graced the stage of various worldwide festivals including the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, Coachella, and Governor’s Ball, in addition to selling out shows on multiple continents all over the globe.
