TV Revelation by “TV Star”
TV Star are back! The Seattle, WA psych rockers have returned with a surprise new EP, TV3, out today. Arriving hot on the heels of 2022’s Hallucinate Me EP, (which drew praise from the likes of Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, FLOOD Magazine, Consequence, and more), the four songs on TV3 are packed with hazy atmosphere, effortless cool, and real hooks that are sure to appeal to psych rock traditionalists and guitar pop fans alike. TV Star will be hitting the road for a handful of shows, including Bumbershoot Festival and dates with Angel Du$t, White Reaper, and more.
TV3 finds the group continuing to hone their blend of ’60s psychedelia and ’90s alternative rock with a healthy dose of pop sensibilities, and to celebrate TV Star have also shared a new music video for its dreamy opener, “TV Revelation.”
TV Star was born out of the Seattle punk scene and the band manage to bring that directness to the sprawling sounds of psych rock. Made up of vocalist Ashlyn Nagel, guitarists Bryan Coats, and Che Hise-Gattone, and drummer Tucker Devault-Weaver, the band formed in 2020 looking to capture the mix of mood and melody that powers the pioneers of psych (The Beatles, 13th Floor Elevators, The Electric Prunes), as well as the following generation of bands from the ‘80s Paisley Underground movement and the ‘90s alternative and college rock scenes (The Jesus and Mary Chain, Mazzy Star, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Rain Parade).
Recorded with engineer Cameron Heck, TV3 picks up where Hallucinate Me left off, delving further in the band’s unique world. Nagel’s lyrics explore an inner rebirth, often with a sense of vulnerability that stands out amongst a genre that sometimes shrouds the personal in sunglasses and vibe, but TV Star don’t lack in that department either. The result bridges the gap between different moments in time as effectively as it connects different eras of music–an equal parts catchy, dreamy, and affecting new generation of alternative psych rock.
