Tune-Yards Shares “Water Fountain” remix
Having just played four consecutive nights at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, tUnE-yArDs will finish off an exceptional year with a handful of dates on the West Coast later this week. Before then, Merrill and band will be performing tonight on US TV on Conan.
Meanwhile, the first official remix from the album has just been released with Lisbon’s DJ Marfox and Rio de Janeiro’s Pearls Negras joining forces to rework ‘Water Fountain’, bringing three continents together.
Marfox has become renowned for productions that fuse kuduro and semba flavours with more recent dance mutations, grime and Bacardi house, while Brazilian party starters Pearls Negras, three young female MCs (Alice, Jeni and Mari), lay down their typically explosive vocal contributions. You can can hear the remix here or in the player below.
Having recently helped Oakland-based dance group Rara Tou Limen, whose teaching of Haitian culture was integral to the making of recent album Nikki Nack, to perform and collaborate with local artists in Haiti for the first time, tUnE-yArDs are now focussing on their new charity, The Water Fountain. A fund to help support organizations dedicated to water issues around the world, The Water Fountain will draw monies from their earnings from music and ticket sales and related licensing of songs in movies, TV shows and adverts.
