Toro Y Moi releases “50-50” video
Today, Toro y Moi returns to share a new video. The visual for “50-50” finds Chaz reuniting with directors Justin Morris and Colin Matsui, who also worked on his “Omaha” video, as Chaz is isolated in a barren wasteland, stuck between a dream and a nightmare. The track, which features teenage electronic producer Instupendo, is off Toro’s current release Outer Peace, available via Carpark Records.
The visual follows Toro y Moi closing out the sold-out second leg of its US tour, with performances at New Orleans’ BUKU Music + Art festival, Bakersfield’s Lightning in a Bottle, London’s All Points East, and two shows alongside Chromeo, Noname and Ian Isiah, including a newly announced show at Berkeley’s Greek Theatre on June 15.
Outer Peace follows Toro Y Moi’s 2017 release Boo Boo and sees Toro continuing to explore its limits sonically and thematically, serving as a homecoming celebration of an album that was written and recorded in the Bay Area after spending a year in Portland surrounded by the solace of nature. A stark contrast to Boo Boo, the new album radiates with a joyous energy that incorporates contemporary hip hop, funk, and Eurodance elements into a dynamic soundscape that remains true to Toro’s distinct identity.
