TOM VEK unveils new video for upcoming single

TOM VEK unveils new video for upcoming single, ‘Sherman (Animals In The Jungle)’, released 9th June via Moshi Moshi Records. Tom Vek plays July 11 in london

This June DIY recording artist Tom Vek returns with his third album ‘Luck’. The first single from the album is titled ‘Sherman (Animals In The Jungle)’, a searing comment on our state of moral ambivalence inspired by Tom Wolfe’s novel, The Bonfire of the Vanities, which delivers a bold chord sequence and a bass-line of such grandiose proportions as to rival Kanye. Spliced with synth motifs reminiscent of the opening to Kiss by Prince, this is angry funk, for the lost generation compelled to head bang in unison to its intoxicating repetition.

The video was filmed at Town Hall Hotel, Bethnal Green, London. A beautifully dark and stylized video that displays the dynamic of two dysfunctional characters who are looking for gratification despite entangling themselves in doom. The schizophrenic editing, mirrors the life Sherman is losing control of, while the stillness of the mistress reflects her calmness on the eventual disgrace of her lover.

Detuned guitars, looped up drums, lackadaisical vocal delivery and orphaned electronic noises all mix together to make up the sound of ‘Luck’ (due for release June 9th).  It’s an album full of his typical pseudo-existential sloganeering, offering few answers to the rhetoric questions.  Cautionary tales mix with apparent declarations of vulnerable romanticism, angry warnings and bouts of depression-squashing mantras.  Overall it’s an optimistic atmosphere, melody and grooves over melancholy for melancholy’s sake, and oddly catchy.

“I play all the instruments to a basic level, enough to explore something enough to be surprised with an outcome, this includes the computer as an instrument, so it’s like Pro Tools garage-rock I guess.”

Londoner Tom Vek studied design at Central Saint Martins before his self-produced music was picked up by an independent label and subsequently licensed through a major, 2005’s “We Have Sound” and 2011’s “Leisure Seizure” were examples of how ambitious a lo-fi rock hybrid could sound. Luck is being released with London independent Moshi Moshi,
