The Red Pears announce Better Late Than Never LP
The Red Pears announce their new album Better Late Than Never will be released April 12th, 2024. The band also shared the album’s anthemic new single, “Didn’t Realize,” alongside a Luis Martinez-directed video showcasing their irresistible live show captured in an empty construction site. “I wanted to keep it simple, to show a natural and raw performance from the band,” Martinez explains. “With only 4 scenes and a static shoot, I wanted to keep the song as the main focus. I placed everyone as if I were painting them on a canvas.” The band have supported supported Interpol, Beach Fossils, and Wild Nothing–are set to play Coachella next month for the second time, and will also support Chicano Batman at LA’s Kia Forum on June 29th.
Reflecting on parting ways with loved ones after no longer recognizing them, and the process of reconciling with a new world once their presence is gone, the song’s urgency is anchored by heartfelt emotions. “The lyrics talk about a time when I was trying my best to make things work but no matter what I did nothing seemed to change their mind or fix things,” says Vargas. “But after time went by I realized that things were actually better, or that some things were clearer to me now. Despite missing them it made me understand a new purpose in life. It allowed me to find who I was without them in the picture.”
2023, saw The Red Pears released their first new single in two years, “The Way You Talk”–the first produced solely in their self-built home studio in the garage of Corona’s family home. The new space allowed them full freedom to explore all production ideas without the limitations of studio time. Many jam sessions here eventually evolved into the making of Better Late Than Never. Written and recorded in the winter of 2023 following an extensive tour, the album finds The Red Pears maintaining a balance between their grunge roots while entrusting new input and adding technical dynamics into the mix.
“While we used to be ear and feel, we’re now trying something different to extract the creative vision in our heads and hearts. This time we were more open to ideas and experimentation because we have a better understanding of musical skills, upgraded instruments, and possibilities of our collective sound that we didn’t have before,” shares Corona. For the first time since their inception, Vargas, Corona and Juarez were also joined by an additional member in the studio: sound engineer Kelwin Hernandez. Hernandez, having worked with the band during live shows, was an organic build to the friendship and in-studio dynamic.
