“Tachylite” by Elin Hall

Icelandic multi-artist Elín Hall, has returned with her new single ‘Tachylite”. The track was Co-written with Jamie Woon, and is inspired by the volcanic rock formed when lava cools too quickly – the forgotten, ‘uglier’ brother of obsidian from which they craft a metaphor for a love built on lust which never solidifies.  The song was produced by Martin Terefe who worked on other singles “Heaven To A Heathen” and “Wolf Boy”. Hall will play with Laufey on

Speaking on the track, Elín shares: “Tachylite forms when volcanic lava rapidly cools and so causes the rock to become brittle and quite weak. I thought that was so typically tragic and so descriptive of a love built on lust. Love so impatient to be born it becomes brittle and never solidifies. Naming it after a volcanic rock is also a quiet nod to my father, a geophysicist who is a first responder during eruptions here in Iceland— I used to worry so much about him as a kid every time there was an eruption. I still worry, but I’m also in awe of his work and dedication. He has taught me a lot about following my passions.”

Alongside being one of Iceland’s leading luminaries in music, Elín’s craft as an actress has reached new heights. Her Cannes-selected role in When the Light Breaks (2024) earned Best Actress at the Chicago International Film Festival and Iceland’s Edda Awards, and she was selected as European Shooting Star 2025.

Last year, she supported Smashing Pumpkins in Reykjavík, was hand-selected to perform at Bludfest and performed at her country’s iconic festival, Iceland Airwaves.
