Smith Westerns Share New Track “Idol”
Smith Westerns reveal a new track “Idol” from their upcoming release, Soft Will, the follow up to Dye It Blonde. In typical Smith Westerns fashion, “Idol” is a dreamy pop song that has the ability to transport you to another time and place. As the track suggests, the band sing about their Idol “Always looked up to you”…“Kept your picture saved it for months.” Though unsure who the adored figure might be, “Idol” is the perfect effervescent pop song for Summer.
Soft Will, the third LP from Smith Westerns, drops June 25th on Mom+Pop (in Europe on June 24 via Co-Op). After playing over 140 shows in support of Dye it Blonde in 2012 Smith Westerns (Cullen Omori, Max Kakacek and Cameron Omori) returned to Chicago to write their follow-up LP, teaming up again with producer Chris Coady (Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TVOR). In August they began recording Soft Will at Sonic Ranch (El Paso, TX).
Soft Will, is an album of frontiers: mellifluous guitars, confident restraint, and pensive songwriting. But to Smith Westerns, recording an album about dreading their homestead feels almost like an interlude—because they can’t wait to play those songs on the road. Smith Westerns will embark on a North American tour this July. Don’t miss your chance to catch the melodic indie rock outfit this time around.
