Smith Westerns Announce Single And Tour
This summer has already seen the release of Soft Will, the lushly realised third album from Chicago rockers Smith Westerns. A leap forward from the stomping glam rock landscape established in both their self-titled debut album Dye it Blonde, the Chris Coady produced record is crammed full of skyscraping choruses, chestbursting melodies and swoonsome hooks, both a nostalgic celebration of youth and all its flaws and foibles.
“Idol”, the new single from the album released on 16th September, encapsulates this perfectly, being a gently lilting and instantly infectious paean to fruitless hero worship, as Cullen Omori sadly sings, “I held you up to the light/ to see if you had a summer night”. The Sandy Kim directed video only serves to heighten these sensations of distance and alienation. Watch it above.
Smith Westerns will finally be making their way to the UK and Europe for a string of headline shows, beginning with a gig at the legendary 100 Club in London before going on to take in shows in Manchester, Paris and more.
