Sleater-Kinney Share New Single
Sleater-Kinney have released stand-alone track, “ANIMAL,” available now on Mom + Pop Music. The track follows the release of their The Center Won’t Hold, produced by St. Vincent, as well as their new music video for “Can I Go On.” The concept for the video was written by Carrie Brownstein (guitar/vocals) and directed and filmed by Ashley Connor (a long-time friend of the band), starring Lauri Guzda and Mami Kimura.
“ANIMAL” shares the raw, yet meticulous sonic qualities of The Center Won’t Hold, making for a visceral, cathartic and intense listen. The band’s piercing guitar and signature vocals are front and center, while lyrically it releases a host of pent up emotions. Corin Tucker (guitar/vocals), explains, “ANIMAL is a song about rebellion, retaliation and rage. It is a song about letting go of all politeness and filters and letting the ‘animal’ side speak. The vocals for this song were recorded in St. Vincent’s home studio, a perfect place to unleash a voice like this.”
