SIIGHTS Debut New Single “Miss You”
SIIGHTS are back today with brand new single “Miss You”, which is available now on Insanity Records alongside news of the hotly-tipped duo’s headline tour. It’s the band’s first new material since breakout single “Fake It”, acclaimed EP Somewhere Between Lost and Found, as well as being invited to open for Lana Del Rey at her Hyde Park BST show and tour the UK with the likes of Dylan and Griff.
“Miss You” opens a compelling new chapter for SIIGHTS. Once again written, produced and played by the powerhouse DIY duo, its driving, Muna-esque melodies are almost deceptively uplifting, a safe-space for painful confessionals. “Miss You” in fact lays bare themes of grief with striking directness, putting a positive, guitar-driven alt-pop spin on the kind of emotional catharsis that already has the hallmarks of SIIGHTS.
For SIIGHTS, it all comes back to authentic connection. It was there on first meeting between Dubliner Mia and Glasgow’s Toni during fish-out-of-water session work in LA, and it runs throughout the band’s soaring work together (not to mention the close bond such lyrical candour has formed with their listeners). Following the Somewhere Between Lost and Found EP, SIIGHTS’ new material promises a bigger, tougher and at times more raw sound: created between the US, Stockholm, London and the girls’ home-studio, songs like “Miss You” set themes of growth, loss and radical self-acceptance into universal but deeply personal pop. Drawing on influences ranging from the nostalgic rock of Alanis Morisette and The Runaways to new-gen heroes like Taylor or HAIM, there is clearly more to SIIGHTS than meets the eye: the distinctive double-I represents their two identities, but also hint at deeper allusions across the group’s lives.
If songs like “Miss You” leave nothing left unsaid, what’s emerged for SIIGHTS is the kind of power that only directness affords. By owning every aspect of the creative process, too, they hope to inspire more up-and-coming female musicians to control their own fate in a notoriously male-dominated industry. Mixing timeless ideas of mortality, surrender and self-care into the model of a new wave of bands, SIIGHTS’ continued quest for that next meaningful connection makes them one of the UK’s most hopeful, and refreshing, propositions for the year ahead.
