RiTchie, of Injury Reserve/By Storm, has dropped his first solo single “RiTchie Valens.” In an open letter that he shared on social media yesterday, RiTchie detailed the path that led to him sharing the solo music that he’d been making as a personal exercise of creative catharsis. Removed from the expectations of Injury Reserve/By Storm music, RiTchie’s debut solo track embraces the playful, tongue-in-cheek side of his personality he unveiled through surprise guest features with Loraine James (“Déjà Vu”), Ho99o9 (“Stunt Double”) and Tony Velour (“TV James a.k.A B3K”) in 2023.

The accompanying self-directed music video for “RiTchie Valens,” which was shot by Parker Corey, embodies the song’s carefree and casual approach following RiTchie through sand dunes and a barbershop, finding him doing anything other than being affected by the outside comments and criticism he raps about.
