Montreal artist Sophie Ogilvie, recently shared “Rest,” the track features Chris Edmondson known for his work with Jonah Yano and Hildegard, on saxophone and was produced by Chris Steward (Bodywash, Alicia Clara). The track is off  Ogilvie’s forthcoming EP Resignations, out January 31st,

Ogilvie describes the song’s composition: “I knew I wanted ‘Rest’ to develop into a long repeated outro, which would allow me to play with vocal harmonies and create a back and forth with Chris’s saxophone. The lyrics in this section give a sense of finality, but I wanted to leave it open-ended as to whether the kind of freedom and ‘trust’ I reference will be available in life or only in death. Working with these stacked choral sections and looping saxophone harmonies, we hoped to build tension to a point of release, mimicking the song’s lyrical themes within the arrangement.”

On producing the track Steward says: “I was struck first by the guitar motif in ‘Rest’. There was a hypnotic rhythm inherent in the way the fingerpicking anchored the vocal melody that immediately invoked patterns and textures. The stacked saxophones, simple bassline and galloping drum shuffle augment a hushed incantation as it transforms into a powerful mantra.”

Ogilvie is based out of Montréal, Quebec, she was lead singer of dreampop band Helen Paradise, and has played shows with Weaves,  Jaunt, and more. Her debut solo EP Coming Up, Crocus  dropped in 2024.
