Pleasure Pill have shared their new single “I’d Rather Be.” With only a handful of songs under their belt, the track is a perfect distillation of the band’s commitment to songcraft and the power of an undeniable, larger than life chorus. “This was the first song I wrote for the band,” explains principle songwriter Jonah Paz, “At the core, it’s a sweet and simple pop song, in the vain of The Ronettes and The Shangri-Las, but matched with the volume and the harsh edge that the five of us can’t help but include in most everything we do. It’s been a staple in our set since the beginning, and will most likely stay in there forever.”

Last year The San Diego band released singles “Not Giving Up,” & “Wonder How.” Pleasure Pill have worked closely with producer Jonathan Rado (Foxygen) to hone their blend of 80’s Brit rock & 90’s alt pop to a fine point. “We loved that Rado was so gung ho about jumping in right away,” explains guitarist Luke Blake. Watch the Brandon Mosquera and Edwin Negado aka Swish Projects directed video below, ahead of the band’s hometown release show at San Diego.

Pleasure Pill have been playing music together since they were kids. The band were raised on the classics—Jonah is a Beatles devotee; 90s British bands are a key reference point—and you can hear devotion to melody and pop form throughout their music. Although the band started as Jonah’s solo project, inspired by punk records and bands like the Prodigy, when this iteration of Pleasure Pill started in earnest, in mid-2021, classicism became a guiding principle. “This is just a rock and roll kind of band,” says Jonah. “We don’t want to confuse people – we just want to be as straightforward with it as possible.”
