“Plastic Unicorns” by Bellzzz
UK artist Bellzzz releases their debut single “Plastic Unicorn.” the track is out today via via Lower Third. Alice caught in a wonderland that takes on an unsettling parallel to reality; her stories are full of lost boys, neverland girls and long shadows we know all too well. Her debut single, ‘Plastic Unicorns’, is our first glimpse through the keyhole: poisoned pop which is equal parts tender and unsettling.
Though the song is an introduction to Bellzzz, there is someone else she’d like you to meet: ‘Elizabeth’. A young girl who stepped into her imagination and out onto the page, fully-formed like a ghost in natural colours. Her story runs parallel to Bellzzz’s own, where themes of loneliness, identity and escape become tangled into the same knot. The production is as haunting as it is magnetic, built on swirling sounds and samples mined from memories you might recognise as your own.
Bellzzz the personal experiences rooted in the single: “‘Plastic Unicorns’ is essentially about how when I’m feeling low and unfulfilled how that manifests itself in a physical way. Being a neurodivergent person can make you feel a misfit sometimes; you can feel unfulfilled and a bit lonely, and so the song is about wanting more than the superficial stuff the world puts in front of you. “There must be more than Fake Fairytales and Plastic Unicorns”: it’s about when everyone keeps telling you the answer is to just “cheer up and go for a walk” but deep down all I truly want are those colourful adventures and to find my place in the world.”
