Benny Sings will release his new LP, 22 Durnham Dew, on September 25 via Stones Throw (The Koreatown Oddity, NxWorries, N8NOFACE).  Ahead of the LP’s arrival, the artist has shared “Parachute,”  the first song he has written and performed in his native Dutch. Benny directed the video for the track himself, in an indoor skydiving facility in the Netherlands.

On the new track Benny Sings says: “I’m singing about the feeling I’ve always carried in me, which has to do with my mother having depression when I was young. Because of that, my life often felt like jumping from a plane without a parachute. Of course, being me, I can only write an upbeat cute little disco song about that. The song resonated with me because it does what I love most: it makes me feel like dancing and crying at the same time. I thought long about just releasing it in Dutch, because it’s so closely related to something very personal. But, you know, I want to make things as universal as possible, so I gave it a go in English, and I think it’s worth sharing. So enjoy, this one’s dear to me.”

22 Durnham Dew follows Benny Sings’ 2023 album Young Hearts, which was produced in collaboration with Kenny Beats. After decades of touring and recording, he has recently embraced a more grounded, family-focused lifestyle. “I’ve been totally immersed in family life lately,” Benny explains. “We bought a house, renovated it, and still are. The new music is all about that, my adult life as a real person. It sure is something.”
