Today Halifax band and new Heavenly Recordings signees The Orielles are very pleased to share brand new single “I Only Bought It For The Bottle”.

Produced by Marta Salogni, one of the most exciting young producers in the UK, the energetic track follows their Heavenly debut, “Sugar Tastes Like Salt”, the eight-minute plus burst of spatial-funk that in part recalled both ESG and fellow north-west pioneers A Certain Ratio.

Made up of sisters Sidonie B and Esmé Dee Hand Halford and their best friend Henry Carlyle Wade, still aged only 21, 18 & 17 respectively, “I Only Bought It For The Bottle” takes inspiration from the band’s joint love of film.

Esmé explains:”The track is loosely based upon Nicolas Winding Refn film The Neon Demon as it talks about the idea of how beauty has become a currency and that we no longer desire substance, yet seek things based on appearance and face value.
The microcosm of this idea comes through the lyrics which explain a story of how the subject bought a bottle because it looked really nice and tasty but actually it tasted like shit.”

Once the best-kept musical secrets in and around their native Halifax, the teenage trio are poised to charm their way beyond UK borders courtesy of their debut release for Heavenly Recordings, “Sugar Tastes Like Salt”, an eight-minute burst of spatial-funk that in part recalls both ESG and fellow Northwest pioneers A Certain Ratio.

Spurred on by repeated whispers about “one of the most exciting local bands of recent years” from various respected musical contacts in the north, Heavenly Recordings head-honcho Jeff Barrett caught The Orielles supporting label-mates The Parrots and immediately signed them in the autumn of 2016.

Despite their youth, the band, who met at a house party and bonded over their shared love of US bands from the ‘90s, have found their feet playing live for the last few years around the north of England. A fantastically engaging and exciting live entertainers, the last month saw the band complete their first UK headline tour. The summer sees them play a number of festivals across the UK, including slots at Green Man, Truck, Sea Change and Port Eliot.
