chlothegod shares new single, “My Gf H8s Me,” the track is off the artist’s forthcoming sophomore album I Feel Different Every Day, the EP drops on January 17 via EQT Recordings. Of the upcoming EP, chlo says, “It’s the first time that I’ve ever been able to scream that loud, both metaphorically and literally… I was able to experiment with my own voice, along with the words I said — the things that I meant when I said them. Even just the literal volume in which I sing on my new project feels symbolic to me.”

On “My Gf H8s Me,” chlo does just that, as she spills out her most paranoid, jittering thoughts to match the glitchy drumbeat. While it’s in line with chlo’s forthright sense of humor, cleverly, the vantage point of perceived hatred flips on its head halfway through the song. It’s not always how your girlfriend feels about you… you’ve got to listen to how you feel about your girlfriend, too.

As a follow up to her 2023 debut EP Nearly Straight, chlothegod stays sensitive in her storytelling, but the air is much different on I Feel Different Every Day — her rage, messiness, and exhaustion is felt deeply and heard loudly; see the recent video for the pop-punk-ish lead single “Digging Around.” The project is a document of a woman in her 20s, and chlo comes with a startling candor as she continues to figure out who she is and who she has yet to become. She’s as self aware as ever, and throughout the EP, we’re invited in to uncover and examine her flaws (and likely our own at the same time).

Within the 7 track project, chlo creates tracks with beguiling grooves and rollercoaster vocal ranges on “I Swear,” soft guitar strums that turn into a screaming catharsis from childhood trauma as on the title track, a winking sense of humor that proves she can laugh at herself along the way on today’s “My GF H8s Me,” and passionately dynamic percussive elements; queue the switch halfway through “I Know What Everyone Says.”
