Muzz Announce Covers EP
Muzz, the project of Paul Banks, Josh Kaufman, and Matt Barrick, announce their new “Covers” EP, out December 9th via Matador Records. Following their self-titled debut released earlier this year, the ep features the band’s interpretations of songs by Arthur Russell, Bob Dylan, Mazzy Star and Tracy Chapman. Ahead of the release, they have shared their version of Arthur Russell’s “Nobody Wants A Lonely Heart.”
In other news, Muzz recently announced Muzz – Live in Kingston, NY, the band’s first-ever, world exclusive live performance. The event will take place December 4th at 4pm EST, commencing with a live Q&A with the three members. Filmed at Reade’s Old Kingston Theater in New York, Muzz – Live in Kingston sees the band joined by musicians Annie Nero (bass, backing vocals), and Stuart Bogie (saxophone, flute, harmonica, clarinet, keyboard) for a full-fledged, never-before-seen rendition of the widescreen sound found on their eponymous debut album. The performance will then be available on-demand for 48 hours, alongside a limited edition T-shirt created by the band exclusive to ticket-buyers.
“Arthur Russell’s “Nobody Wants A Lonely Heart” is deconstructed to its foundations, with Banks’ baritone gliding over Kaufman’s submerged piano and Barrick’s gentle shuffle. Bob Dylan’s “Girl From The North Country” swoons with acoustic guitar, slides, and ghostly vocals that slow-burn to a crescendo. Elsewhere, Banks’ emotional invocation of Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You” is set to a backdrop of percussion and arching strings. Tracy Chapman’s “For You” brings the set to a buoyant close, punctuated by fluttering guitar runs, cinematic pads, and Banks’ vocal delivery.”
