Mo Troper, announces his new full-length album Svengali, with a video for lead single “The Billy Joel Fan Club.” The LP, which was self-produced drops on May 3rd via Lame-O Records (Slaughter Beach, Dog)

“When I was a kid I was literally forbidden from talking about the Beatles at the dinner table. I could only listen to music in the basement or through headphones. As a result I feel a lot of shame whenever my enthusiasm for anything is apparent. I apologize constantly for being excited about things,” Troper explains. “‘The Billy Joel Fan Club’ is about falling in love with someone who shares your specific interests and nurtures your enthusiasm. It is a true story, about someone who founded and asked me to participate in something called The Billy Joel Fan Club. To bring it full circle, I tried to make it sound exactly like a Paul McCartney song from 1967.”

Mo Troper’s Svengali, is described as a deeply psychological record with the throbbing heart of a fragile giant. It is a meditation on evil-ness. At certain points across Svengali’s 13 tracks, Troper relishes his own innate evil-ness; just as often he’s repulsed by it.

Svengali is the follow-up to his LP Troper Sings Brion, a labor-intensive project of love that features covers of 11 Jon Brion unreleased rarities pulled from demos and live recordings and reinterpreted by Troper.
