NightNight is the project of multi-artist Yasmin Maryam Haddad. The classically trained violinist, guitarist, singer and recording engineer emerged from the Las Vegas music scene. The child of an Iranian cab driver and a Moroccan American dancer and poet, Yasmin started early in music performing on the Las Vegas strip and with local bands including The Killers where she was a featured player on their Sam’s Town album. NightNight draws influence from her predecessors such as Massive Attack, Garbage, Depeche Mode and Bat for Lashes using a combination of analog synths, cutting edge technology and live instrumentation. NightNight is due to release her debut LP Love Decayed, on January 28, 2022. The full-length was produced by her hero, Sylvia Massy (Tool, System of a Down, REM)
“Maybe It’s Too Late” is one of the more up-tempo songs in the collection with lyrical content addressing feeling misunderstood and alone. Centered around a drum beat from the Dave Smith Tempest along with a myriad of analog synths, it’s lead comes from an Arturia Microfreak, an experimental hybrid synth that blends wavetable and digital oscillators with analog filters.
“When writing this, my mind was really fixated on the long legacy of artists who managed to make tragic music danceable,” says Haddad. “The whole album was at one point titled ‘Maybe It’s Too Late’ because, at the time, I believed that. Maybe it was too late for a particular relationship, for my own redemption, for the world we live in. Hopefully, I was wrong.”
“Maybe It’s Too Late” follows Love Decayed’s first offering “Ashes,” co-produced by Chris Harms from Lord of the Lost with video by Frank Coleman.
