Les Jupes announce new single and tour
Les Jupes will release a new single, “Introversion” b/w a cover of Sky Ferreira’s “Nobody Asked Me (If I Was Okay)”, on May 6 via Head In The Sand. The Winnipeg quartet will take to the road on a two-week run of dates, in support, starting May 8 in Chicago, while also previewing songs off their upcoming Fall full-length, which the band recently finished recording in Montreal with producer Marcus Paquin (The National/Stars/Local Natives).
Singer/guitarist Mike Falk said of the two songs, “Introversion” came out of the juxtoposition of this winter. On one hand you didn’t want to walk outside or talk to anyone and you just want to hole up and pack it in and quit everything and do your best to fight off the cynicism and self-questioning, so you start going a little stir crazy and are ready to pop. “Introversion” also sort of picks up where Sky Ferreira’s original leaves off. I know it’s a breakup song, but if you put that aside and just focus on that one title line, it’s such a poignant expression of isolation and frustration and abandonment.”
Les Jupes released the Negative Space EP last October, their U.S. debut, hitting the road on a fall tour that took them from POP Montreal to Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Germany, to a four night run in London, to the West Coast and back. Devoted to creating music that has roots in British post-punk and American folk, Les Jupes released their debut album, Modern Myths, in 2012, straddling some imaginary line between noise and pop, cascading layers of sound upon peculiar songs with peculiar characters.
