“Les Astres” by Laura Cahen
French singer-songwriter Laura Cahen today shares new single “Les Astres” via [PIAS] Recordings. Meaning “the stars.” Of the track Cahen says: “”Les Astres” tells the story of that moment, of love at first sight: we’ve never seen each other before, but now our eyes meet, and we know that nothing will ever be the same again. We’re nothing but tension, desire, fear and excitement. There’s something magical about this rare phenomenon, something bigger than ourselves, something metaphysical, even mystical, that questions everything. It’s as simple as that, and as immense and impressive as the stars, “les astres.” Co-composed with Josephine Stephenson, the track was produced with Mike Lindsay in Margate (UK), mixed and mastered by Fab Dupont in New York.
Two women, frozen in their social attitudes, behind their social masks, fall madly in love. The world is burning and doesn’t want that kind of love. They have to save themselves! In every sense of the word – to leave, to flee, to find themselves and to save their love. To escape to save themselves.”
Cahen’s music is inspired by Laurie Anderson, Laura Marling, Adrianne Lenker and more. her music fuses acoustic and electronic to create emotionally rich, self-reflective sonic landscapes. In the form of poetic love songs, she tackles subjects such as womanhood, ecology, homosexuality and equal rights.
Ten years into her career, Cahen has toured extensively in France and parts of Europe and America, with over three hundred concerts. Her latest release Des Filles featured guest artists including Juliette Armanet, Jeanne Added and Yael Naim. Three songs from her second album Une Fille (“Poussière”, “ Nuit Forêt” and “La complainte du soleil”) featured in major TV shows and films, including You (Netflix), Tales of the Walking Dead (AMC) and Oscar-nominated I Lost My Body.
