“Least I Have You” by CocoRosie

CocoRosie releases new single “Least I Have You,” the track is accompanied by a music video. Along with the news, the duo has announced their signing to Joyful Noise Recordings (Deerhoof, The Folk Implosion, No Joy, Dale Crover).

The entire CocoRosie project—which has, above all else, been a conduit for sisters Bianca and Sierra Casady’s connection—has been leading up to these words: “if no one in the world understands, at least I have you”. They are the chorus of their latest song “Least I Have You”, as well as the spiritual reward for Sierra and Bianca’s twenty-year-long stint of carrying one another’s pain and transmuting it into trashy treasure. In another artist’s mouth they might scan as trite, but in the sisters’ they are revelatory. CocoRosie has a unique talent for turning the kitsch primordial, the platitudinous, into fresh truths. And no one has earned those nakedly sentimental words as much as the Casady sisters.

The song’s musical arc mirrors the sisters’ relationship: it begins combatively, with the sound of gun-toting guitar squalls and beats like Street Fighter punches, before leveling out into tentative euphoria, cautiously crawling towards the ecstatic union of that chorus.

“Up until this song, we used to take our pain out on each other,” says Sierra. “Until we allowed our sisterhood to become the antidote to the damage that came in our younger years.” The song, Bianca adds, came “just in a simple way.” “It’s vulnerable. It’s cute. It’s cliche. It’s all these things I don’t think we would have been able to approach in the past.”

Sierra Casady is a classically trained Opera singer and stage actor and Bianca Casady is a published poet, theater director and accomplished visual artist. Together the sisters utilize music, theatrical practices of movement and character study, fashion and contemporary art to create a body of work which reflects the beauty and sorrow of our collective experience.

CocoRosie has released seven studio albums to date and will release their highly anticipated 8th record in the Spring of 2025: Put The Shine On (2020), Heartache City (2015), Tales of a Grasswidow (2013), Grey Oceans (2010), The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn (2007), Noah’s Ark (2005), and La maison de mon rêve (2004). In addition to CocoRosie tours and festival performances worldwide, CocoRosie has composed original scores for four full-length theatrical works by acclaimed director Robert Wilson; Peter Pan, Pushkin’s Fairy Tales, Edda, and Jungle Book – with another project underway.

Bianca Casady has had her art on exhibition internationally, including at Deitch Projects (2007) and Cheim & Read Gallery (2012). As an experimental theater director, Bianca has created several plays, including NightShift (2012) at Kampnagel in Hamburg, Germany, Mother Hunting (2015) at the National Theater in Oslo, Norway, and The Angel Show (2017) at the National Theater Academy in Norway. Bianca hosts an ongoing experimental poetry course titled Remembering The Miracle and in 2023, the artist published her first poetry book, Au bord du ciel: Heaven bound. Sierra Casady has arranged and performed music globally, including with the Symphony Orchestra of Amsterdam, The ICA in London and The Sydney Opera House and created “Soul Life,” an Opera staged at the Donau Festival in Krems.
