My New Band Believe, the project of former black midi bassist and sometime frontman Cameron Picton, recently released a new video for “In the Blink of an Eye”. The video was directed by Botsu_NGS (of Japanese experimental hip hop outfit Dos Monos) and features Hiroki Kaniya.

Director Botsu_NGS says, “The music video for My New Band Believe’s “In the Blink of an Eye” captures the landscape of Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture in April 2026, alongside the everyday life of Hiroki Kaniya, who has been fishing these waters for over 45 years since he was 17.

When the project began in late March, the song immediately brought to mind the harsh northern waters of the Sea of Japan, a creaking boat, and a solitary fisherman facing the elements. Through a friend, I was fortunate enough to connect with Mr. Kaniya, who graciously allowed me to accompany him and document his work.

Suzu City is still on the long road to recovery following the devastating Noto Peninsula earthquake and tsunami on January 1, 2024. Despite losing both his home and his boat, Mr. Kaniya chose to stay in his birthplace, continuing to head out to sea on a daily basis.

Massively impressed by the timeless yet vibrantly fresh energy of the band’s music, I chose to capture the rawest possible footage, relying on simple, straight cuts for the edit. Being originally from Nanao City, also on the Noto Peninsula, I hadn’t been able to engage much with the region since the earthquake. I am truly grateful to have reconnected with my home through this project. A massive thank you to Cameron, Rough Trade Records, and this beautiful song for giving me this opportunity.”
