Arny Margret, recently shared her new single “In a Dream,” the track was written and recorded in a moment of solitude on a quiet New Year’s Eve, out now alongside a video. “The harmonica is a new instrument for me. I actually went to the Bob Dylan movie and then I was gifted the set,” she explains of the song. At its core, “In a Dream” explores identity, growth, and self-perception. “I wrote this song on New Year’s Eve, just sitting in my room with my cat while fireworks were going off outside. It’s mostly about me wanting to become the woman I want to be–wanting to be honest and strong.”

Margret also today announced she’ll be playing her first-ever North American headlining shows this summer, including U.S. stops at Chicago’s The Hideout (July 8th) and Brooklyn’s Union Pool (July 16th). ​She will additionally support Of Monsters and Men’s hometown festival in Iceland this October, and return to Iceland Airwaves in November.

Says Margret of “In a Dream”, “I never really know what a song is about when I’m writing it,” she says. “I just have a sentence and then it kind of goes from there. It’s whatever I’m thinking–like a diary–and then later I’m like, okay, that’s what it meant. ‘In a Dream’ captures a little moment from that night, and it will probably make more sense to me later. It’s actually the original demo take because I tried doing it again and it just didn’t feel right. It kind of captured the moment how it was supposed to be, so I built everything on top of that.” Entirely self-produced and performed, “In a Dream” showcases Margret’s growing confidence as a multi-instrumentalist and producer, as she shapes a sonic world from the ground up.

Margret has played shows with Leif Vollebekk, Passenger, Wilco, Ásgeir, and more, and performed at festivals including SXSW, The Great Escape, Eurosonic, and Newport Folk Festival, among others. In 2023 she was nominated for Song, Album, and Video of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards, winning Song of the Year.
