“Go Free” By Bird Streets

A native of upstate New York, John Brodeur began his recording career with 2000’s Tiger Pop, and released two more solo albums, in addition to EPs with The Suggestions and Maggie Mayday, prior to becoming Bird Streets. He has toured with Juliana Hatfield, They Might Be Giants, Alana Davis, and Fountains of Wayne.

“Go Free,” is the latest single from Bird Streets–aka indie-rock singer-songwriter John Brodeur. The track is the latest single of his LP Lagoon. Brodeur assembled a fantasy live session at Memphis’ famed Ardent Studios: Patrick Sansone of Wilco on bass and guitar (he also produced the song), John Davis of Superdrag on Fender Stratocaster, and Big Star legend Jody Stephens on drums. The sound will ring true with fans of the Jayhawks, Matthew Sweet, and Teenage Fanclub, while the just-released animated video for “Go Free” should appeal to anyone who spent their childhood Saturday mornings in front of the television set.

Recorded in Memphis at Ardent Studios, “Go Free” was produced and mixed by Patrick Sansone (Wilco), with John Davis (Superdrag) and legendary Big Star drummer Jody Stephens completing the all-killer, no-filler band. (And since you asked, the answer is yes, Jody played the Radio City drumkit.) A bright blast of power-pop that would please fans of the Raspberries or Teenage Fanclub.

Lagoon, Brodeur’s second album under the Bird Streets name, features a parade of distinguished guests, including Pat Sansone (Wilco), Aimee Mann, Ed Harcourt, Jody Stephens (Big Star), and Michael Lockwood (Susanna Hoffs), plus mixing by Grammy-winner Michael Brauer
