Genesis Owusu announces his new album REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE, will drop on May 15th via OURNESS. Fans have already got a taste of the album, with recent singles including “PIRATE RADIO,” “DEATH CULT ZOMBIE” and the “STAMPEDE” which was accompanied by a music video shot upon Owusu’s first return to Ghana since moving to Australia as a kid.

Saya Owusu: “I started writing this album because I was seeing so much of the world and watching what was happening,” he says of the record. “I felt like I had something important to say. I was writing this almost for necessity because there were so many people not saying what needed to be said. I feel like I’m a student of Nina Simone, and she said, ‘the purpose of an artist is to reflect the times they live in’.”

In a world where prioritising community has never been more powerful, Owusu is practising his preach and spurning the album’s words into action. From sharing unreleased work in the space of fans’ homes to connecting with the faces on the other side of the streams over a game of UNO, Owusu creates space for people to come together around common ground rather than division. Last September, the unreleased album was first previewed within a string of intimate, in-the-round live residencies in Sydney and Melbourne.

Owusu’s 2021 debut Smiling With No Teeth, saw him make his US late night debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. In 2023, he released his sophomore album STRUGGLER, a concept record that continued to see his artistry evolve and push the boundaries of style and genre.

The artists’s live reputation echoes his recorded output, having shared stages with Tame Impala, Paramore, IDLES and more. He’s also appeared at some of the world’s most iconic festivals and venues including Lollapalooza, Primavera Sound, Austin City Limits, and Boston Calling, and headlined sold-out performances at Sydney Opera House’s Concert Hall with Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
