Last year, Florentino released his debut album for XL Recordings, Kilometro Quinze. The five track record, which featured bold collaborations with DJ Python, Baby Cocada, BAMBII, and KD One, showcased Florentino’s (aka Yeshe Bahamon Beesley) blend of cross-cultural club sounds. A direct reference to his grandfather’s farm near Villavicencio in Colombia, Kilometro Quinze draws inspiration equally from the acid tones of his U.K. rave upbringing and the irresistible swing of the cumbia sounds from his Colombian heritage. Created over three years across multiple cities, the EP remains a defining moment in his career, presenting Florentino’s most captivating and innovative work to date.

To celebrate the year anniversary of the album, Florentino releases two remixes of “Pressure” featuring Shygirl. First, the Brazilian baile-funk DJ Ramon Successo mixes his signature bubble-beat into the track. Alongside, Alan Vega (the go-to producer for the likes of ESTEVIE) stretches the raging reggaeton drums and wobbling bass into more down-tempo territory inviting Miami-based, Venezuala-born musician MJ Nebreda to add scorching new verses for “Pressure Cumbia”.

Speaking on the new releases, Florentino says…

“I’ve spent considerable time thinking about Kilometro Quinze with it being a release that’s almost a year old. It’s a strange experience because most of the time there are always things that if I could, I’d go back and change musically. The weird thing is, I don’t think I’d change a thing on the EP even after deep thought, that’s truly a first for me. It’s the first piece of music I feel proud of and have no regrets about, which is a huge personal milestone. A chapter in my sound that I’ll always cherish as a consequence.

Being able to release these remixes, done by some of the most unique artists in the club scene at the moment, feels incredibly appropriate given that feeling.

Alan Vega might be a new name to some but having grown up hearing Cumbia from an early age, I can tell he’s about to contribute to the genre on a very important level. Sitting beside him in his LA studio a few months ago, I don’t think I’d ever heard an approach on cumbia as groundbreaking as his, since when I first heard Cumbia Rebajada perhaps. Having him pair up with MJ Nebrada for the remix, an artist I have a huge respect for, is nothing short of an honour. MJ I feel is already making waves and it feels like she’s on her way to stardom. Again, she’s someone I’ve had the pleasure of being in the studio with earlier this year and have been able to experience a unique talent that I know is going to go onto do big things.

On the other remix, you’ve got a real star of bubble funk AKA Beat Bolha. In true fashion, Ramon Succeso brings the Bolha energy on his flip of Pressure. Having already had the opportunity to work with a funk legend like MC Bin Laden, I feel extremely privileged to have the first official remix from Ramon, another Funk legend that’s entered the limelight in recent years & is surely going to be in Brazil’s Funk Hall of fame when we look back in years to come.
