Florence + The Machine Debut The Odyssey Part 6: “Delilah”
The sixth chapter of Florence + the Machine’s Odyssey, the short film for “Delilah” from the band’s U.S. #1 album How Big How Blue How Beautiful, debuts today.
“This was one of the first songs Isa and I wrote for this record while we were at Geejam studios in Jamaica,” Welch says of the song. “It’s based on a party we had just been to in Miami, the biblical tale of Samson and Delilah and the agony of the mobile phone in modern relationships.”
Of the video, director Vincent Haycock says, “‘Delilah’ is the turning point in the Odyssey. It’s basically Florence returning to the beginning of her journey. She’s been in Limbo and the transient motel in Hollywood represents the final layer. Without giving away the end of the Odyssey, Delilah ends with Florence confronting herself and then returning to the moment in the SUV before the car accident from ‘What Kind of Man.’ She is now back in the real world, she’s regained her strength, and on her way to the end.”
Florence appeared on “Ellen” Tuesday, October 21 to perform “Ship To Wreck” and chat with Ellen, watch the performance here.
How Big How Blue How Beautiful is nominated for the U.K.’s prestigious Mercury Prize. The album is one of 12 nominees on the Prize’s shortlist, with the winner to be announced later this year.
Florence is currently in the midst of a headline U.S. tour with dates including two nights at The Hollywood Bowl and at Berkeley’s Greek Theater and shows at Portland’s Memorial Coliseum and Seattle’s Key Arena.
The dates follow Florence and her band’s worldwide summer tour, headlining many festivals including Lollapalooza, Osheaga, Austin City Limits and Splendour in the Grass with their own headline dates including Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
