“Flex Your Way Out” by Sofi de la Torre

Sofi de la Torre, the Spanish singer from the Canary Islands, shares her newest single, ‘Flex Your Way Out’ featuring LA artist Blackbear.

The track finds the two singers mirroring their dreamy vocals over Finnish pop producer Jonas Karlsson’s soothing, trap-infused instrumental. Whilst Sofi del la Torre is exposing a darker and more introverted side, as she laments the end of a relationship, the overall feel is one of closure and optimism. The repeated refrain “go ahead and play with another, not me, I’m done” is delivered in such a manner as to project a sense of calm and control through the emotion. This is a powerful talent that is prevalent throughout her work, and has seen her credited already by The Guardian for the use for subtle restraint.

Sofi explains how the collaboration came together on the latest single: “I’ve always had it in the back of my mind that our voices would sound great together, so I sent him a message after writing this track in Helsinki. He got back to me straight away with that killer verse & vocal and I’ve had it on repeat ever since!” Blackbear rose to fame as a co-writer on Justin Bieber’s 2012 hit ‘Boyfriend’. Since then the 25-year old producer has developed an intriguing musical persona – pursuing R&B and rap influences and working with hip-hop artists such as Childish Gambino and Machine Gun Kelly, as well as Pharrell and James Blake.
