“Five Hundred” by Magnolia

Magnolia have released Five Hundred, the UK band’s latest single is inspired by the sounds of Black Midi, Maruja and Opus Kink and more. Adam Turner, singer and bassist, says: “Five Hundred was written early in our time together as a band, with minor changes since. The lyrics overall don’t have any major personal meaning to me, it’s a sort of story or journey about a rather emotionally dark subject, yet one I have only observed rather than experienced. That being said, there are a few lines which hold greater relevance than others and can be put to any situation and taken into different interpretations making it more widely resonant.”

After forming in 2022, the band – made up of Turner, George Rodgers (guitars/vocals) Daisy Green (saxophone), Tom Reynolds (percussion/programming), Matthew Creegan (guitar), Harrison Peek (drums), Matthew Cassie (trombone) – spared no time in quickly positioning themselves as being on a war-footing with artistic compromise. Driven by a shared vision of music as a force for inclusion and unity, MAGNOLIA have worn a deeply trodden path between Norwich and London’s underground venues over the last 12 months.

Whilst debuting at Brixton’s Windmill in summer and moving through hot spots like Shacklewell Arms and Hackney’s Two Palms, the band’s tainted splendour continues to radiate from their home city and numerous, celebratory, capacity eye-to-eye outings in their home city. Marking the release of Five Hundred, the return to the stage of Norwich’s Voodoo Daddy’s tomorrow (Fri 29 November 2024) then London’s Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes the following evening (Sat 30 November 2024).
