“Dial Tone” By Robber Robber
Robber Robber, recently shared “Dial Tone,” a track off the band’s debut album, Wild Guess, available July 26th. The LP is described by the band as “steamed punk,” “Dial Tone” is a propulsive yet introspective track that explores the feeling of missing out on connections with others. It follows singles “Sea Or War” and “Backup Plan.”
Singer/guitarist Nina Cates says of the song: “It’s kind of a voyeuristic perspective of everyone scrambling around to see each other and connect but also never feeling quite like you’re keeping pace with the slipstream. Feeling like you’re always going out and yet always missing out on something.” The hazy and distorted VHS-inspired video was directed by Mark Balderston.
Wild Guess was Co-produced by Cates and James and recorded with Benny Yurco (Grace Potter) and Urian Hackney (The Armed, Rough Francis, Iggy Pop), Wild Guess, despite all of its nods to its post-punk predecessors and the eclectic Burlington music scene that fed into it, feels more like an attempt to translate imagery into sound, communicating all the shades of light and dark you could visualize. The group have honed in on the most fully-realized version of Robber Robber to date, capturing the tangible group dynamic they’ve cultivated on stage.
