“Dance While You Shoot” by Noga Erez

Tel Aviv based musician Noga Erez has signed to City Slang Records and today released the video for her politically charged debut single “Dance While You Shoot.” Directed by Zhang + Knight, who describe the clip as set in “a stylised dystopian world where violence and struggle are depicted as pink.”

The grainy textures and potent atmospheres forged with her synths and ingenious beatsbravely straddle genres, energized further by the environment in which she’s grown up. “We wanted to make a video for ‘Dance While You Shoot’ that showed everything associated with violence and corruption coupled with a soft, sweet visualisation,” says Erez. “The idea of using the color pink to soften the disturbing images was inspired by photography works from Richard Mosse’s ‘Infra’ series, and images from the 2011 Kampala riots in Uganda where protesters were sprayed with pink paint. We wanted to give the video an uncontrolled, bad-ass vibe while also presenting moments that felt real and genuine, and at other times felt almost fake and self convincing.”

As inspired by Björk, M.I.A. and fka Twigs as by Flying Lotus, Kendrick Lamar and Frank Ocean, the music she makes in collaboration with her partner and co-writer, composer and producer Ori Rousso exploits many of the more physical, dynamic elements of electronic music, while it also embraces a cerebral sensitivity that’s made her one of her home city’s most exciting, idiosyncratic artists. Noga’s music reflects how she’s learned to live. As she puts it, “I have this idea of giving people moments of thought and inspiration, and at the same time offering escapism and fun.”
