“Contra” by Delorean
Barcelona-based quartet Delorean return for their latest studio full-length, Muzik, available June 22 via the group’s PHLEX label. Walking the line between pop and electronic music, Delorean craft sunny, synth-soaked melodies paired with traditional rock arrangements and slow-burning dance rhythms.
On the latest single, “Contra”, Delorean begins on bittersweet footing – dark, ominous, heavy synths setting the foundation below singer Ekhi Lopetegi’s high register musings. Slowly churning and bubbling forward, “Contra” capitulates with a warm breakdown of drums & synths.
Of the song, Delorean had this to say,
“Contra is one of the most special songs in the record Muzik. With a classic pop structure, it begins without a beat but progresses and ends with much more upbeat and maintaining a ethereal feel throughout”.
For Muzik, the group decided to focus primarily on the electronic realm, trading in their guitars for synths and going full throttle on the four-to-the-flour pulse, channeling 80s pop and contemporary Balearic house.
