Summer Salt are gearing up for the forthcoming release of their new album, Campanita, which drops on May 19th via Wax Bodega. In anticipation of the album release they’re sharing the new single “Carry On”, a song sonically inspired by the likes of The Cure and Tears For Fears that draws thematically upon Terry’s confrontation with the loss of his late sister (for whom the album is named) and cousin. “The lyrics are just about grief. Starring your situation in the face and trying to accept it and move on from it. Melissa said to me recently that ‘grief is like a bottle that is never empty, but there are days when it’s more full than others.’ I know in my life I have to carry on and naturally will in time, but I don’t ever want to completely lose something that I’ve lost. So this song is just a song explaining that no matter how much time passes, no matter how happy I seem to appear on my best days, the memories of that person will forever hold a place in my heart.”

Terry lightheartedly describes “Carry On” as “That time when we accidentally made an 80’s song!” The track “is fast and we were so stoked from the moment the writing process started to have an energetic song to get lost in,” he continues to share. “It had so many pockets for decoration and all of us took on filling the gaps with licks, synths, and background vocals. We love 80’s music but it wasn’t intentional when first writing the song. I love songs by The Cure, Tears For Fears, Aztec Camera, some late Fleetwood Mac, etc. A song I’ve been listening to all the time these past two years is ‘In A Big Country’ and so maybe some of that snuck in. All in all it definitely came out a Summer Salt song but there are essences of the above in the drums and guitar work.”
