Absolute Elsewhere

Blood Incantation

“That Blood Incantation’s so hot right now.”

And rightfully so. Their latest offering, Absolute Elsewhere showcases not only their incredible talents as musicians and songwriters, but displays a vast variety of musical influences that extends beyond death metal. As I listened, I was delighted to hear various directions ranging from the heavier styles of Opeth and Emperor (Ihsahn), to German prog outfit Eloy, to Alice in Chains, and even sounds similar to the likes of new age pioneer Paul Horn.

“The Stargate” and “The Message” are two tracks each divided into three tablets. They are both truly captivating listens, taking you on a hard head banging ritualistic cosmic transcendental journey which has you back on earth after 43 minute saying “Holy Fuck!”.

It was the last two songs on 2019’s “Hidden History of the Human Race” that really struck a chord with me. The krautrock inspired synth work, although faint in comparison to their latest album, was most certainly a delightful tease to their follow up and even greater shifting “Timewave Zero”, which I thoroughly enjoyed and respected for its drastic and gutsy step away from metal. It only makes sense that “Absolute Elsewhere” brings it ALL in, creating the best of all of Blood Incantation’s worlds.

This is a bar raising album for me. The compositions, performances, and arrangements are very impressive. The metal hits so hard, and their more progressive and atmospheric works are out of this world. Adding Thorsten Quaeschning of Tangerine Dream to the fold is also such an exciting touch. “Absolute Elsewhere” is a sign that the band members are all in a great place together, and I have a feeling that we ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
