“Blind” Role Model
Tucker Pillsbury AKA: Role Model, has dropped the new single “blind.” The song is now available via Interscope Records, and follows his previous single “for the people in the back,” which marked the beginning of a new chapter for ROLE MODEL as the first taste of new music following last year’s oh, how perfect EP.
Role Model pn “Blind:”
“This is the first song that I’ve written on guitar in my home. My friend Spencer taught me 2 chords and I ended up writing the whole song to that, and then Andrew Luce brought it to life and produced it out with me.
I wrote this song before I even met the person it’s about. It’s that feeling of falling for someone over the internet and telling yourself they’re perfect for you without even knowing their full name. It’s like writing a love song about someone’s Instagram profile as sad as that seems.”
Tucker Pillsbury was born and raised in Portland, ME, music would initially be the furthest thing from Tucker’s mind. Instead, he “grew up outdoors.” He skied with his dad and brother every weekend and eventually transitioned to shooting skiing videos and skating videos. Watching and creating skateboarding videos ultimately inspired him to pursue film at this early stage.
Attending film school in Pittsburgh, he “immediately kind of hated it” though.
“It just wasn’t for me,” he admits. “I had these two friends during freshman year who recorded themselves and rapped. I’d never seen anything like it, but I was super interested. They brought everything over to my dorm room, and we made all of these songs like a joke one night. They left Logic on my computer. I started watching YouTube tutorials and learning everything I could. Music was not in the plan whatsoever, but I fell in love with it. I love to write, so this was a new way of writing for me.”
He spent a lot of time embracing that new way of writing and developing a signature style on his own. In 2017, he uploaded “Cocaine Babe” to Soundcloud and ignited a palpable buzz. “Girl In New York” organically landed on Spotify’s coveted New Music Friday, and he caught the attention of Benny Blanco and Interscope Records.
