“Barricade (Matter of Fact)” by Yumi Zouma

New Zealand’s Yumi Zouma have released a new video for their single, “Barricade (Matter of Fact).” The song is taken from their debut album, Yoncalla, that was released last summer through Cascine. The band themselves assisted in producing the video while all effects were done by friend and fellow Kiwi, Simon Ward. Clothing was provided by New Zealand’s, RUBY.

About the video, Josh Burgess from Yumi Zouma says:
This video was shot in the middle of madness. We were a few days out from the first shows of a major Yoncalla tour and things where hectic. I had managed to blow up a few synths and then nearly broke my thumb dancing. Regardless, we soldiered on and put Christie on a rotating pedestal for this footage. The video is surprisingly calm considering the delirious creatures behind it. We had our friend Simon Ward add the translucent shapes and animations over the video which, in a way, symbolizes the slow motion madness behind it all. ‘Barricade’ is a song about letting go and realizing that we’re only ever truly in control of ourselves and the way we respond to the world around us. Ironically, we forgot about that in the weeks leading up to this shoot, but now we have the video to remind us.

Yoncalla was self-recorded and produced by Yumi Zouma and was mixed at Philippe Zdar’s Motorbass studio. While Yumi Zouma’s previous EPs were created in isolation, the new material was given a singular voice. “Yumi Zouma has always been an exercise in refining ideas and collaborating,” reflects guitarist Charlie Ryder. “But this was the first time we weren’t limited or protected by distance. With Yoncalla, the process was different, and it can be scary to present raw ideas to your friends ‐ but it’s also incredible to see songs evolve through the sparks of inspiration that bounce between people in the same room.”
