“barnyard” by lots of hands
lots of hands, includes Billy Woodhouse and Elliot Dryden, the UK duo are releasing their new album into a pretty room on January 17th via Fire Talk Records (Cola, Kassie Krut). Today, they share their final single, in advance of the LP’s arrival, with “barnyard.” The track is one of the first properly collaborative tracks written by lots of hands, following years of remote work. On “barnyard,” Woodhouse and Dryden’s vocals intertwine, reflecting a quiet sadness as looped guitars swirl in a pool of sparkling instrumentation. “I’ll brush your hair through a nightmare, breathing in the country air.”
Woodhouse breaks down the track’s genesis in a recent Q&A, revealing: “When Elliot and I first started properly sitting down to make a record, he came with the most basic little guitar riff. I recorded it and then looped it on a Logic track. We had a few beers and just made some mad shit on it. We did it in like 20 minutes and it’s probably my favorite song on the album.” This formation was a common practice throughout the songwriting sessions for into a pretty room, which was crafted between pints of beer and rounds of Fortnite.
To celebrate the release of into a pretty room, lots of hands are embarking on a brief headlining UK tour, beginning Friday, January 24th at Newcastle’s CLUNY and including stops at London’s Moth Club and Leeds’ Wharf Chambers. Following their headline performances, lots of hands will play a string of shows alongside Crywank, with a full list of tour dates below.
lots of hands is anchored by the duo’s friendship, with Woodhouse and Dryden first connecting in a Newcastle school music program at age 16. At that point, Woodhouse had been tinkering with lots of hands as a solo musical outlet — self-releasing music on Soundcloud and quietly beginning work debut outing, mistake — until Dryden properly joined in 2020. Due to global circumstances outside of anyone’s purview, the two began work on lots of hands remotely, exchanging demos online to form what would become 2021’s largely instrumental there’s someone in this room just like you, and 2023’s mistake.
