Today, Brooklyn’s AVAN LAVA premiered their latest video for “It’s Never Over” at YouTube Music HERE and direct video link HERE. The shameless pop anthem is the latest release off the band’s forthcoming sophomore EP Flex Fantasy, which will be self-released on February 21st. The song is a giddy pop gem, with frontman TC’s ecstatic vocals interweaving with producers Le Chev and Ian Pai’s arrangements, which recall Discovery-era Daft Punk. Watch the video HERE.
Always stylish and joyous, AVAN LAVA’s latest EP, Flex Fantasy, finds the band eschewing the lo-fi shoegaze of their debut EP Vapors in favor of high-energy technicolor pop. It’s an apt paring for the band’s ebullient live performances that feature backup dancers, elaborate light shows, and choreography by Vanessa Walters (Fischerspooner). Over the years, AVAN LAVA has worked as producers, composers, and mixers for bands like Cold Cave, Fischerspooner, CSS, Frankie Rose, SSION, Lemonade, Lia Ices — not to mention their work with prestigious The New York Philharmonic. Their remixes for bands like R.E.M.,
Passion Pit and New Villager have earned the band a reputation as one that matches their live show’s energy with in-studio production chops.
The band began as a conversation between producers/musicians Le Chev and Ian Pai during an overnight bus ride after performing at the Sao Paulo Bienal with Fischerspooner. En route to Rio de Janeiro, Le Chev and Ian shared their love of Prince, Daft Punk, R&B, and indie music and contemplated how those things could all be melded into one sound, one band. A few months later, back in New York — while at a reading of “The Last Goodbye” a musical adaptation of Romeo & Juliet set to the music of Jeff Buckley — the two discovered vocalist TC and began what would become AVAN LAVA.
AVAN LAVA is singer TC and producers/musicians Le Chev and Ian Pai. Their live performances are with the help of musicians, vocalists and technicians Andrew Schneider (The Wooster Group), Drew Citron and Jo Lampert.
