MorMor the project of Seth Nyquist shares double single “Don’t Need It” and “Touch” out now via Promised Land Records. The tracks were co-produced with Riley McIntyre (LCD Soundsystem, Thurston Moore, Rina Sawayama) at Paul Epworth’s Church Studios in London. The Toronto artist and multi-instrumentalist has played headline tours across the US, UK and Europe, and has played numerous festivals, including Primavera and more.

“Don’t Need It” arrives as the second glimpse into MorMor’s new era, having come together spontaneously during a break in session for era-opener “Like Heaven,” featuring Celeste. Picking up a Moog synthesizer and playing over the same drum pattern, the track poured out in a freestyle. Built on dark-hued 2-step garage rhythms and rich melodic hooks, it inhabits the emotional space where “Like Heaven” leaves off, revealing the other side of an introspective coin, where shimmering euphoria gives way to assertion and release.

Of the track, he says: “At its core, the song can mean a lot of things but for me, it marked the end of a long search for love, and even for a father figure, or external validation. There’s pain in that realization, but also a real sense of liberation, letting go of that need and making space for something new.”

“Touch,” meanwhile, became less about the song itself and more about curiosity, as MorMor reached for a Roland Jupiter-8 for the first time and experimented with autotune to sculpt its melodies. Coming to creation in around ten minutes, it’s a lesson in texture-pushing maximalism, as MorMor elevates his craft in creating immersive soundscapes. “It’s a song about falling into the same patterns into a cycle of chaotic love. Wanting love so badly yet not being able to hold onto it,” the many elements to the production became a sonic reflection of its emotional spiral.

Arriving after a period of reflective quiet following acclaimed 2022 debut album Semblance – a personal collection that pursued difficult truths about love and growth, recorded largely during the lonely lockdown days of the pandemic and taken from the artist’s forthcoming full-length due later this year.
