“Silt” by Atta Boy

Atta Boy have dropped new album, Silt today, to celebrate the release the band are sharing a video for the title-track . Atta Boy will be heading the road for a run of live dates, stops include San Francisco, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York City, and more.

Guitarist/vocalist Eden Brolin on “Silt:”

“I wrote this song as an assignment from a writing workshop from School of Song with Adrienne Lenker… which was so cool. She had us look at this photograph by Genesis Baez and write some details we noticed into lyrics. I think if I break down the lyrics it’s a lot of ‘looking at nature as a human; looking at human as nature’. Shifting perspectives and the levity that can accompany that. And then I’ve always just loved daydreaming about being in the creek that I grew up around. I know it’s seen so much, and even though I’m such a snippet of a chapter in that creek’s life, it takes up such a grand amount of space in the span of my own life. It’s also just purely wanting to live inside the things around you that are so breathtaking.”

Human connections are becoming rarer by the day, but Atta Boy – Eden, Dashel Thompson (keyboards), Freddy Reish (guitar/bass), and Lewis Pullman (drums) – has prepared for this moment since swapping favorite albums, running for School Council, and goofing around in middle school. Pulling their band name from a newspaper after eventually combining their skills to make music together in high school, they would never have expected those formative years to take them quite so far.

“The record swings between nature and elusive, unsettling moments of confusion and processing. Silt – the dirt – is where it all meets; it’s where we come from and return to; it gets on us and we clean it off; it makes the path and clouds it,” Eden reveals. Yet its truth is transient, flickering like a loosely wired striplight before emitting its powerful surge of musical connection. “We’re playing together but have our own engines for why we’re playing,” says Lewis.
