Less than a month before Angine de Poitrine’s sophomore album debut, the Quebecois math rock duo garnered virality. Was it the black and white polka-dotted anonymous personas? Unbeknownst to newcomers, dadaism is just the cherry on top. It might be solely because Angine de Poitrine are 1-of-1 in perfecting a rare type of musicianship. Khn and Klek de Poitrine fill every corner of the atmosphere, using their percussion and double-necked microtonal guitar with deceptive ease.

Vol. II compiles six tracks with rhythm and lick overload. Angine De Poitrine loop intricate arrangements that most would not dare replicate. Vol. I preceded Vol. II with that exact synchronous movement. They continue to operate massively fast on a wider scale. While not culture defining per se, a performance of “Fabienk” and “Sarniezz” might very well lift the vibrations of any unsuspecting listener.

Khn and Klek de Poitrine appear to have a shared language in their artistic representation that goes beyond their costumes. If you pay attention to their live sets, a recurring symbol will emerge in the depths of their past: traced in their logo, expressed through hand gestures, and embedded in the mathematical patterns of their time signatures. It’s a triangular shape that has captivated fans like a cult-like phenomenon, bringing awareness to the entire concept and not only the duo themselves.

Angine de Poitrine are unparalleled for more reasons than one. Like many bands they have energy, groove and spirit, but with the technical ability to leverage it into something no one can ignore. Vol. II doesn’t need all of your patience. It flies through time in the background or joins in your existence. The album breathes on its own and speaks without words.
